Refreshing Dew
I walked out into the garden early one morning.
The grass was wet; water drops sat on the bright green leaves
of the Lady's mantle like shiny silver balls.
The morning sky was blue, it hadn’t rained but during the
night the garden had been moistened by the miracle of dew -
nature’s provision to refresh, renew plant life.
God says he will be like the dew to his people (Hosea 14:5).
It's a a symbol of spiritual refreshing. Our spirits often
droop like a thirsty plant but God promises to refresh us.
A child explained dew as: “The sun shines on the plants
and makes them sweat.” Not so. The temperature must fall,
the air has to be cool and still in order for dew to descend.
And so with us. In order for us to experience refreshment,
we must turn down the heat, so to speak, "cool it," turn off
the inner chatter, become still....In meditative stillness
we find new perspective; in surrender we find rest.
After a period of deep stillness,we are enabled to go through
our day with renewed emotional strength.
We've grounded ourselves in that "place of quiet rest," and
our activities of the day will flow less hurriedly, more orderly.
Medical science tells us that periods of deep relaxation also
strengthens immune function! Killer cells are energized, and, yes,
they do gobble up cancer cells!
Throughout my long battle with chemo treatments, when inner turmoil
threatened to overwhelm me, I’d sing over and over:
Drop Thy still dew of quietness
‘Till all our strivings cease.
Take from our souls the strain and stress;
And let our ordered lives confess
The beauty of your peace.
Remember: "He will quiet you with His (great) LOVE." (Zeph.3:17)
