Keys to Health

Three words that may best sum up my quest for health are:
                                PRAY, PURGE, and PURIFY.

PRAY: We are the crown of God's creation; the physical, emotional
and spiritual, are intricately woven together like a "seamless web."
What affects one part, affects all. Our emotional well-being,
our attitude, our level of trust, impact our physical bodies.
It is now a scientific fact that those who pray and are prayed
for enjoy a greater measure of healing. No wonder we are
instructed to "Pray continually!" Boldly ask for prayer!

Prayer is closely connected to meditation and meditation means
relaxing - becoming still. This increases immune cell activity.
Even 15 min. of deep relaxation has been proven to strengthen
immune cell activity. On the contrary, stress decreases immune cell
function. A relaxation tape may help you to learn how to deeply
relax all your muscles. Our immune systems fight desease.
Strong, more active immune cells are able to gobble up more
             cancer cells!

The word "surrender" crops up again and again in health-promoting
literature. Aim for an attidude of "letting go and letting God."
Reading and repeating Scripture passages may help calm your mind.
"Be still and know that I am God."
"In quietness and confidence shall be your strength."

PURGE: Living in an affluent society means living in a toxic environment
We have polluted our air and water. Purge means to stay out of
polution as much as possible - smoke, exhaust fumes, sprayed
lawns and greenhouses, even beaches where the water is questionable.

Processed, packaged food is another thing to be eliminated as
much as possible. Begin reading lists of ingredients - our bodies
weren't designed to handle most of these. Go for fresh!

Meat may contain many harmful chemicals. Anything cured, smoked,
colored, and/or injected with hormomes and preservatives are all
shown to raise the risk of developing cancer. I've opted for
drug-free chicken (no more red meat) and free-range eggs.

our homes and gardens are kept spotless and weed-free with toxic
substances.(And I wonder why 4 of my neighbours have died of cancer?)
So our lawn and garden grow without chemicals. (We do weed!)

Purging for me meant to discard all harmful cleaning procucts. I'm back
to where Grandma was: water, vinegar, soda. Well, not quite. Enviro
cleaning products and their miracle cloths do a great job!
"Simply Clean" products is another great line - all non-toxic!

The house is clean, (Martha does not live here), the lawn is not
perfect but the flowers bloom, and some even stop to take note!

PURIFY: Eight glasses of water a day is paramount to keep us "watered"
and "flushed." Installing a reverse osmosis water purifying system
may be the best way to go. It pays for itself. To see the dark
color of the filters when it's time to change them is very con-
             vincing!

Scientist have consistently found that people who eat greater
amounts of vegetables and fruits have lower cancer rates. The
phytochemicals in the produce protect us from getting cancer and
help us to fight the disease. Emphasis is on the cruciferous vegetables:
brocolli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, kale and turnips. They are
said to block carcinogens from damaging the genetic make-up of our
cells. All fruit and vegetables are beneficial. The more the better
             - at least 10 a day. The more variety, the better. The deeper the
color, the better. The fresher, the better. The more organic, the better!

Many books are available that give direction as to healthy, cancer-
fighting eating habits. Nutrition: The Cancer Answer by
Maureen Kennedy Salaman is filled with advice for various cancers
and includes great recipes and extensive references. Even though
it was published in 1996: Statford Publ., it's an excellent guide.

Wheat and milk are difficult to digest and you may be advised to try
a gluten free diet. A variety of gluten-free breads, pastries, or
flour for baking are available. Soy procucts are an excellent
alternative for dairy especially when the bowel is a problem.
Yogurt containing acidolphylus is a must for the bowel.

To further boost the immune system, a naturopath may prescribe various
herbs, calcium, vitamins, selenium, beta carotene, antioxidants,
(green tea) and immune boosters (astragulus plus). Essiac tea is
high on the list. Click "Latest Update" to read the Essiac tea story.

There are many alternative methods you may want to explore in
             addition to your treatments.

Finally, we have a God who is in the healing business. He
surprises us with miracles. But he has equipped our bodies
with an internal "healer," namely, our immune system.

Besides prayer, purging your environment and purifying your
water and food, try laughter, singing, good times with loved
ones, joy in the moment, gratitude, a positive mind-set and
walks in fresh air to strengthen the "healer" within.
