Baskets for your Blessings
|
When I received this beautiful angel gift, a five-year-old challenged
me to see the meaning behind this intricate sculpture. She admired it
again and again and one day said, "Nanna, you need another basket to
put underneath it, so that you can catch all the hearts."
I've been thinking about her comment ever since. ("Out of the mouth
of babes!")
It's summer. I sometimes go into the garden and pick a basket of
flowers. And very very small baskets of raspberries.
But do I have a basket to "catch" blessings?
Do I have a receptive, open mind that helps me see a blessing when
it comes my way? How big is my basket? Am I catching ALL the "hearts?"
Or are my eyes half closed, my heart preoccupied, so to speak, and I
miss that smile, that touch on my shoulder, the favour, the light
in a loved one's eye, the comfort of a friend's call?
The angel is carrying a basket to distribute her heart gifts. Do I
have a basket for that also? Do I carry it around and freely give
what I have? Do I leave "heart prints" wherever I go? Are others
blessed when we've spent some time together?
Her basket bears the word, "seed." A blessing received is often
multiplied by putting me in a better frame of mind to see other
blessings. A blessing received often sprouts another one as it
encourages us "to pass it on!"
Let's consider our baskets this month. Baskets to catch the blessings
God sends our way however small they are. And baskets to distribute
the little (or big!) things we can do for each other.
And let's be reminded of angels - God says they are "ministering
spririts" to guide us on our way.
(Thank you Anne for the beautiful angel. Thank you Jaden for your
innocent wisdom!)
